Shabby Chic Birthday Party for Ally.

When you’re 11, doing something special with your friends i high on the wish list. Ally is just the sweetest young lady and her mum Helen wanted to do something extra special to celebrate. Ten little friends shared in the most gorgeous high tea at Ally’s home followed by heaps of fun with props and their own personal photographer. It was delightful watching the girls enter the room with an overwhelming response to what was in store for them. Strawberry jelly and cream in petite tea cups, chocolates and the most gorgeous looking and tasting macaroons made by a friend all beautifully laid out on pretty cake stands amongst  a collection of tall glass vases, pink mosaic candle holders and sprays of pink and cream roses in white teapots. The best reward for being involved in creating a beautiful celebration like this is witnessing how special all the girls fee, and watching them enjoy each others company and being a part of Ally’s special celebration. Pretty pastels

Just Because I like! It’s not hard to guess that at the moment I’m into pretty pinks and blues combined with the texture of worn out white furniture. So easy to live with.

Playing with pattern in fabric, paper and objects is so much fun. I love the challenge of combining different colours and patterns to create a mix that works. Getting the right balance and including just one slightly off beat pattern to create the wow factor. It’s incredible how that one piece added to the mix works to keep a display, quilt or room from being ordinary. This love affair with pattern was mostly inspired from my quilting days and in particular from a workshop I did with the lady who made the quilts for the movie ‘How to make an American Quilt. I can’t remember her name and I have her book here somewhere, but she was a fabulous little lady full of energy and an inspirational teacher. I learnt so much in that weekend workshop and now apply that to most projects I do. So enjoy the mix and don’t be afraid of adding one little something to gain the wow factor.
